- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 yellow onion, sliced thin
- 4 slices American cheese
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- Texas toast, thick-sliced bread
Instructions
- Brown ground beef in a skillet, seasoning with salt and pepper. Set aside.
- Sauté onions until deeply golden and fragrant.
- Layer each sandwich: one slice Swiss, beef, onions, one slice American, between two slices of buttered Texas toast (butter on the outside).
- Cook each sandwich on a griddle or pan until crispy on both sides and cheese is gooey.
- Slice in half and serve hot.
