Description
Tender apple slices wrapped in buttery crescent dough, baked in a bubbling brown sugar–cinnamon sauce that turns into glossy caramel. Best served warm with vanilla ice cream melting over the top.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 can crescent roll dough (8 pieces)
- 1 large apple, peeled and sliced into 8 wedges
- 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing apples)
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp sugar (optional)
- ½ cup (1 stick / 115 g) unsalted butter (for caramel sauce)
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup apple cider or sparkling apple juice
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp cinnamon (for caramel sauce)
- Pinch of salt
- Optional Toppings: Vanilla ice cream, Powdered sugar, Extra cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F / 180°C and grease a medium baking dish.
- Separate crescent dough triangles and toss apple wedges with melted butter, cinnamon, and optional sugar.
- Place one apple slice at the wide end of each triangle and roll up tightly, arranging the dumplings seam-side down in the baking dish.
- In a small saucepan, melt the butter for the caramel sauce, then add brown sugar, apple cider, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 2–3 minutes until glossy and slightly thickened.
- Pour the warm caramel sauce evenly over the dumplings and bake for 33–38 minutes until crescent rolls are deeply golden and sauce is bubbling and thickened.
- Let cool for 5–10 minutes so the caramel settles before serving.
