Description

These candy apples combine the nostalgia of a vanilla milkshake with the crunch of a candy apple. Coated in creamy white vanilla candy, dotted with red accents, and crowned with whipped frosting and a maraschino cherry, they’re perfect for retro-style desserts or themed parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 small to medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • Wooden sticks or red-striped paper straws
  • 2 cups white candy melts or white chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream (or vegetable shortening for a thinner coat)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Red candy melts (for the dots)
  • Parchment paper
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream (for the topping)
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar (for the topping)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for the topping)
  • 6 maraschino cherries (with stems)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples: Wash apples thoroughly and remove any wax by dipping them in hot water for 10 seconds, then drying completely. Insert a straw or wooden stick firmly into each apple. Chill in the fridge while preparing the coating.
  2. Make the Vanilla Candy Coating: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white candy melts with heavy cream (or shortening) in 30-second intervals, stirring each time until smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract for that milkshake flavor. Dip each chilled apple into the mixture, swirling to coat evenly. Place them on parchment paper to set (about 15–20 minutes).
  3. Add the Red Polka Dots: Melt a handful of red candy melts in a piping bag or zip bag with a tiny corner snipped. Pipe small dots all over each white-coated apple for a playful retro look. Let them set fully before adding toppings.
  4. Make the Whipped Cream Topping: In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until soft peaks form. Pipe the whipped cream on top of each apple using a star tip for a swirled effect.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Top each apple with a maraschino cherry. Keep refrigerated until serving for best texture.

Notes

  • For a thinner candy coating, use vegetable shortening instead of heavy cream.
  • Ensure apples are completely dry before dipping to help the coating adhere better.
  • These apples are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for a short time.
