- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (or a mix of beef & pork)
- 1 can (28 oz / 800 g) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
- Salt & black pepper, to taste
- 2 cups ricotta cheese (or cottage cheese)
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Pinch of salt & pepper
- 9–12 lasagna noodles (boiled or no-boil, depending on type)
- 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Extra Parmesan for topping
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet. Add onion and cook until soft.
- Stir in garlic and ground beef; cook until browned.
- Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, and seasonings.
- Simmer 20–25 minutes until thickened.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta, egg, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until smooth.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and line a tall round baking dish or springform pan.
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce at the bottom.
- Layer noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and mozzarella.
- Repeat until you reach the top, finishing with mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Cover with foil (tenting so cheese doesn’t stick) and bake 35 minutes.
- Remove foil, bake another 15–20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Rest 15 minutes before slicing to hold layers together.

- For a vegetarian option, substitute ground beef with lentils or mushrooms.
- Let the lasagna pie rest longer for cleaner slices.
- Feel free to add vegetables like spinach or zucchini for extra nutrition.
