Description
Create stunning Sunset Glow Candy Apples with a beautiful gradient and edible glitter for a delightful treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 fresh apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best)
- 6 lollipop sticks or paper straws
- 2 cups (400 g) granulated sugar
- ½ cup (120 ml) light corn syrup
- ¾ cup (180 ml) water
- ½ tsp gel food coloring (pink + orange for gradient)
- Edible glitter (gold, pink, or rainbow sparkle)
- Candy thermometer
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples: Wash apples thoroughly and dry completely (remove any wax so the candy sticks). Insert sticks or straws firmly into the tops. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Make the Candy Coating: In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir gently, then bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Cook until mixture reaches 300°F (150°C) (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer. Remove from heat immediately.
- Add Colors: Divide the hot candy syrup into 2 heatproof bowls. Tint one portion with orange gel food coloring, and the other with pink. Working quickly, tilt the bowls slightly and dip apples first into the orange, then dip the lower half into the pink to create a glowing sunset gradient.
- Add the Sparkle: While candy is still sticky, sprinkle with edible glitter for a shimmering effect.
- Let Set: Place coated apples onto the prepared parchment paper. Allow to harden at room temperature (about 15 minutes).
Notes
- Ensure apples are completely dry for the candy to adhere properly.
- Work quickly when dipping the apples to maintain the gradient effect.
- Experiment with different colors of edible glitter for unique looks.
