- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Blue frosting swirls (for decoration)
- Crumbled blue velvet cake crumbs or edible glitter (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk sugar, oil, and eggs until smooth. Add buttermilk, vanilla, vinegar, and food coloring. Mix well.
- Slowly fold in dry ingredients until just combined.
- Divide batter into pans and bake 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool completely before frosting.
- Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth and fluffy.
- Add vanilla and salt. Gradually beat in powdered sugar until creamy.
- Slice cakes horizontally for 4 thinner layers (optional for a dramatic look).
- Spread cream cheese frosting between each layer.
- Frost the entire cake generously.
- Pipe blue-tinted frosting swirls on top.
- Sprinkle with cake crumbs or shimmer dust for a stunning finish.
