Ingredients

  • 200 g (1 ½ cups) all-purpose flour
  • 70 g (¾ cup) cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 200 g (1 cup) sugar
  • 100 g (½ cup) brown sugar
  • 120 ml (½ cup) vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 240 ml (1 cup) buttermilk (or milk + 1 tsp lemon juice)
  • 120 ml (½ cup) hot coffee or hot water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 300 g (10 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 200 g (7 oz) dark or milk chocolate, melted & cooled
  • 200 ml (¾ cup) heavy cream
  • 100 g (½ cup) powdered sugar
  • 300 ml (1 ¼ cups) milk
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 80 g (⅓ cup) sugar
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 350 g (about 2 ½ cups) fresh strawberries, halved
  • 200 g (7 oz) dark chocolate, melted (for topping/drizzle)
  • Chocolate sprinkles
  • Whole strawberries for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and line a springform pan.
  2. Whisk together flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix sugars, oil, and eggs until fluffy.
  4. Add buttermilk, hot coffee, and vanilla. Stir well.
  5. Fold in dry mixture until smooth.
  6. Bake for 25–30 minutes. Cool completely.
  7. Heat milk in a saucepan until warm.
  8. In a bowl, whisk yolks, sugar, and cornstarch.
  9. Slowly add warm milk to yolk mix, whisking.
  10. Return to saucepan, cook until thickened.
  11. Stir in vanilla and butter. Cool fully.
  12. Beat cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth.
  13. Fold in melted chocolate.
  14. Whip heavy cream until stiff peaks, then fold gently into mixture.
  15. Spread a thin layer of chocolate cream over cake base.
  16. Arrange halved strawberries cut-side out along the edges.
  17. Spoon custard between strawberries.
  18. Spread remaining chocolate cream on top, smoothing surface.
  19. Pour melted chocolate over cake, letting it drip down.
  20. Sprinkle with chocolate sprinkles.
  21. Top with whole strawberries.
