Description
A fun and spooky recipe for brownies topped with candy eyeballs and a blood-like jam, perfect for Halloween or any festive occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 200 g (7 oz) dark chocolate, chopped
- 120 g (½ cup) unsalted butter
- 200 g (1 cup) sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 100 g (¾ cup) all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 150 g (5 oz) white chocolate, melted (or white candy melts)
- 100 g (½ cup) red strawberry or raspberry jam (for “blood”)
- Candy eyeballs (store-bought) or homemade
- White fondant or marshmallows (for homemade eyeballs)
- Black and red edible food coloring (or mini chocolate chips for pupils)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Line an 8×8-inch (20×20 cm) pan with parchment paper.
- Melt chocolate and butter together until smooth.
- Stir in sugar, then add eggs and vanilla.
- Fold in flour, cocoa, and salt until just combined.
- Spread batter into pan and bake for 20–25 minutes. Cool completely.
- Melt white chocolate and spread evenly over cooled brownies. Let set until firm (refrigerate for 15 minutes).
- Drizzle red jam (or red icing) in random streaks to look like “blood.”
- Place candy eyeballs on top while jam is still sticky so they adhere.
- If making your own eyeballs: shape white fondant into small balls, dot with black/red food coloring or a mini chocolate chip for pupils.
- Cut brownies into squares and serve. For extra gore, let jam drip down the sides before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use high-quality dark chocolate.
- Store brownies in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- Feel free to customize the toppings with other spooky decorations.
