Description

Crisp apples coated in a shiny, hard candy shell swirled with vibrant rainbow colors. These make a magical treat for birthdays, carnivals, or any festive occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 68 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work great)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ teaspoon gel food coloring (various rainbow shades: pink, blue, yellow, green, purple)
  • ½ teaspoon flavored extract (optional: vanilla, cotton candy, or bubblegum)
  • Wooden sticks or skewers

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry apples thoroughly (remove any wax coating for better candy adhesion).
  2. Insert wooden sticks into the tops and set aside.
  3. In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
  4. Cook over medium-high heat until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.
  5. Immediately remove from heat and stir in flavored extract if using.
  6. Divide the hot candy into small heatproof bowls (one for each color).
  7. Add a drop or two of gel food coloring to each bowl and stir.
  8. Working quickly, drizzle small amounts of different colors back into one bowl in swirls (don’t mix completely).
  9. Tilt the bowl slightly and dip each apple, twisting to create rainbow swirls.
  10. Let excess drip off, then place on a parchment-lined baking sheet to harden.
  11. Allow candy coating to cool and harden completely (about 20–30 minutes).
  12. Display on a platter and enjoy the crunchy, colorful magic!

Notes

  • Ensure apples are completely dry before dipping.
  • Use a candy thermometer for accurate temperature.
  • Experiment with different flavors and colors for variety.
