Description

A delicious twist on traditional garlic bread, filled with layers of lasagna ingredients for a hearty appetizer or main dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large loaf of Italian bread (round or oblong)
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ lb ground beef or Italian sausage (cooked & drained)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Slice the top off the loaf of bread and carefully hollow out the inside, leaving about 1 inch of bread around the edges to form a shell.
  3. Mix melted butter, garlic, parsley, and Italian seasoning. Brush the inside of the hollowed bread with the mixture.
  4. In a bowl, mix ricotta, egg, Parmesan, salt, and pepper until smooth. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce inside the bread.
  5. Add a layer of cooked ground beef/sausage. Spread ricotta mixture over the meat. Add mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers until the bread is full, ending with marinara and mozzarella on top.
  6. Place stuffed bread on a baking sheet. Cover loosely with foil. Bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake another 10 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Slice into thick portions and garnish with extra parsley and Parmesan. Serve with warm marinara on the side.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, substitute ground beef/sausage with sautéed vegetables.
  • Feel free to add other cheese varieties for extra flavor.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture.
