Description
A delicious twist on traditional garlic bread, filled with layers of lasagna ingredients for a hearty appetizer or main dish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large loaf of Italian bread (round or oblong)
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- ½ lb ground beef or Italian sausage (cooked & drained)
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Slice the top off the loaf of bread and carefully hollow out the inside, leaving about 1 inch of bread around the edges to form a shell.
- Mix melted butter, garlic, parsley, and Italian seasoning. Brush the inside of the hollowed bread with the mixture.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta, egg, Parmesan, salt, and pepper until smooth. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce inside the bread.
- Add a layer of cooked ground beef/sausage. Spread ricotta mixture over the meat. Add mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers until the bread is full, ending with marinara and mozzarella on top.
- Place stuffed bread on a baking sheet. Cover loosely with foil. Bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake another 10 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Slice into thick portions and garnish with extra parsley and Parmesan. Serve with warm marinara on the side.
Notes
- For a vegetarian option, substitute ground beef/sausage with sautéed vegetables.
- Feel free to add other cheese varieties for extra flavor.
- Serve immediately for the best texture.
