Description

Honey-Glazed Festive Fried Dough Balls are soft inside with crispy edges and a sticky honey shine, making them an irresistible treat for any festive occasion.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 300 g flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 200 ml lukewarm water (more or less as needed)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Oil for deep frying
  • 180 ml honey
  • 60 ml water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1 tsp orange blossom water
  • Colorful sprinkles (for topping)
  • Toasted sesame seeds (for topping)
  • Fresh herbs (optional, for holiday style)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix: flour, sugar, yeast, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Add the lukewarm water gradually and mix until you get a soft, sticky dough.
  3. Add 1 tbsp oil and knead 2–3 minutes until smooth.
  4. Cover and rest 45–60 minutes until doubled.
  5. Heat oil to 170–180°C.
  6. With oiled hands or two spoons, drop small balls of dough into the hot oil.
  7. Fry 3–4 minutes, turning until puffy, golden, and lightly crisp.
  8. Remove and place on paper towels.
  9. Warm honey + water in a saucepan.
  10. Add lemon juice and vanilla.
  11. Heat gently until syrupy (don’t boil too hard).
  12. While still warm, dip the fried dough balls into the honey glaze.
  13. Place on a serving plate, creating a festive mound.
  14. Sprinkle immediately with colored sprinkles, sesame, and herbs (optional for styling).
