Description

A festive and delicious Holiday Candy Cane Cookie Trifle that combines layers of chocolate cake, peppermint cream filling, and cookie crunch for a delightful dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (or 1 homemade 9×13 chocolate cake)
  • Ingredients required by the cake mix (oil, eggs, water)
  • 2 cups (480 ml) cold milk
  • 1 box (3.4 oz / 96 g) instant vanilla pudding
  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream (or 1 container Cool Whip)
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1 cup crushed candy canes
  • ½ cup holiday M&M’s (optional)
  • 1 cups small cookies (Gingerbread bites, Teddy Grahams, vanilla cookies, or cinnamon cereal)
  • Additional crushed candy cane
  • Whipped cream
  • Crushed candy canes
  • Small cookies
  • Holiday M&M’s
  • White chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cake according to the box (or use homemade). Bake in a 9×13 pan, let it cool completely. Crumble the cake into large soft chunks.
  2. In a bowl, whisk cold milk + vanilla pudding until thick (2 minutes). Fold in heavy cream (whipped) or Cool Whip, peppermint extract, crushed candy canes, and Holiday M&Ms. Mix gently to keep it fluffy.
  3. In a large glass trifle dish, layer chocolate cake chunks, peppermint cream filling, and cookie bites + crushed candy cane. Repeat layers until the dish is full and finish with a thick layer of whipped cream.
  4. Top generously with whipped cream, mini cookies, candy cane pieces, M&M’s, and a bit of crushed cereal for crunch. Your trifle should look festive, snowy, and colorful!
