Description

A delicious and flavorful Gourmet Mushroom Swiss Pretzel Burger featuring juicy beef, smothered mushrooms, Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, and a creamy garlic spread, all served on a toasted pretzel bun.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 10 oz (280g) mushrooms, sliced (cremini or baby bella)
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt & pepper
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional)
  • Splash of water or broth as needed
  • ¼ cup mayo
  • 2 tbsp sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1 garlic clove, grated
  • ½ tsp Dijon mustard
  • Pinch of salt & black pepper
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20 recommended)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Optional: ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 pretzel buns (soft pretzel style)
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • Butter for toasting buns
  • Extra parsley to garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the Mushroom Topping: Heat butter + oil in a skillet over medium-high. Add mushrooms; cook 5–7 minutes until browned and reduced. Add garlic, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire. Cook another 1 minute. Stir in parsley. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Caramelize the Onions: In a pan, heat butter + oil. Add sliced onions + pinch of salt. Cook on medium-low for 15–20 minutes, stirring often. Add sugar if using. Add a splash of water if the pan dries out. Cook until deep golden and jammy.
  3. Prepare the Garlic Cream Spread: Mix all ingredients in a small bowl: mayo + sour cream + garlic + Dijon + salt + pepper. Refrigerate.
  4. Form & Cook the Burger Patties: Mix beef with salt, pepper, and (optional) Worcestershire + onion powder. Form into 4 thick patties. Heat a skillet or grill on high. Cook patties 3–4 minutes per side. During last minute, place Swiss cheese on top and cover to melt.
  5. Toast the Pretzel Buns: Slice buns in half. Spread butter on cut sides. Toast in a pan or in the oven until golden.
  6. Assemble the Gourmet Pretzel Burger: Spread garlic cream on the bottom pretzel bun. Add the juicy Swiss-covered patty. Top with caramelized onions. Add a generous amount of sautéed mushrooms. Garnish with fresh parsley. Close with the top pretzel bun. Serve hot and melty!
