Description
Delicious and glamorous candy apples coated in a golden syrup, perfect for special occasions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Gala, or Honeycrisp)
- 6 sticks or gold paper straws
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup light corn syrup
- ¾ cup water
- ½ tsp clear vanilla extract (optional)
- ½ tsp edible gold food coloring (gel or candy color, not water-based)
- ½ tsp edible gold luster dust (for the shimmer)
Instructions
- In a heavy-bottom saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
- Heat over medium-high, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Once it begins boiling, stop stirring and let it reach 300°F (150°C) — the hard crack stage.
- Remove from heat and carefully stir in clear vanilla extract, gold food coloring, and a touch of edible luster dust for metallic sheen.
- Wash apples thoroughly to remove wax (use warm water + a bit of vinegar).
- Dry completely and insert your gold straws or sticks.
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper and lightly grease it.
- Tilt the saucepan slightly and dip each apple in the golden syrup.
- Twirl to evenly coat and allow the excess to drip off.
- Place on parchment to set at room temperature.
- For extra glamour, dust lightly with more luster dust once the candy shell is firm.
Notes
- Lightly spray edible gold glitter for a mirror finish.
- Add a thin gold leaf accent for a luxurious touch.
- Tie a gold ribbon around each stick for serving presentation.
