- ½ cup (120ml) milk or buttermilk
- ⅓ cup (70g) brown sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 4 oz (115g) cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup (60g) butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups (180g) powdered sugar
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp milk or cream (adjust for texture)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
- Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk until smooth.
- Mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter in a small bowl.
- Fill each cupcake liner halfway with batter.
- Add 1 tsp of cinnamon swirl mixture in the center and gently swirl with a toothpick.
- Top with more batter until ¾ full.
- Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool completely before frosting.
- Beat cream cheese and butter together until creamy.
- Add powdered sugar and vanilla; beat until smooth and fluffy.
- Add milk to reach desired consistency.
- Pipe the frosting in a swirl pattern to resemble a cinnamon roll.
- Lightly dust with cinnamon or cocoa powder for that classic bakery look.
