Description

A classic dish featuring chicken breasts rolled with ham and cheese, breaded and cooked to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 small chicken breasts
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 23 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 4 slices Swiss or Gruyère cheese
  • 4 slices deli ham
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko for extra crispiness)
  • 23 tbsp butter or oil (for frying or baking)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) if baking. Butterfly each chicken breast by slicing horizontally, being careful not to cut all the way through. Place between two sheets of plastic wrap and pound gently to about ¼-inch thickness. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Assemble: Spread ½–1 tbsp Dijon mustard on each chicken breast. Place a slice of ham and cheese in the center. Roll up tightly and secure with toothpicks.
  3. Bread the Rolls: Dredge each roll in flour, shaking off excess. Dip in beaten eggs, then coat in breadcrumbs.
  4. Cook: Option 1 – Pan Fry & Bake: Heat butter/oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sear chicken on all sides until golden. Transfer to a baking dish and bake 15–20 min until cooked through. Option 2 – Bake Only: Place breaded rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment. Lightly spray with oil. Bake 25–30 min until golden and cooked through.
  5. Serve: Remove toothpicks, slice, and serve with creamy mustard sauce or hollandaise.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, use panko breadcrumbs.
  • Ensure chicken is cooked through before serving.
  • Can be served with a side salad or vegetables.
