Description

A delicious and hearty breakfast casserole featuring cheesy biscuits and savory sausage gravy, perfect for a family brunch.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) breakfast sausage
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk (warm)
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 can (16 oz / 450 g) refrigerated biscuit dough (or homemade biscuits)
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, brown the sausage over medium heat until cooked through.
  2. Remove sausage with a slotted spoon and set aside. Leave 2–3 tbsp of drippings in the pan.
  3. Add butter to the skillet. Stir in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes.
  4. Gradually whisk in warm milk until smooth and thickened.
  5. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  6. Stir the sausage back into the gravy.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Pour the sausage gravy into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  9. Sprinkle half the cheddar cheese on top.
  10. Cut biscuits into halves or quarters and arrange over the gravy.
  11. Sprinkle with remaining cheese.
  12. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, until biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
  13. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

  • Feel free to adjust the seasoning to your taste.
  • This casserole can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving.
  • For a spicier version, add some red pepper flakes to the gravy.
