Description
Soft, golden-brown pretzel dough stuffed with juicy beef, melted cheese, and finished with a sprinkle of coarse salt. Perfect as a snack, party appetizer, or game-day treat!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp paprika
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or Colby Jack cheese (or cheese cubes)
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (110°F / 45°C)
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 6 cups water
- ⅓ cup baking soda
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt
Instructions
- Cook ground beef and onion in a skillet until browned. Drain excess grease, then stir in garlic powder, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Let cool, then mix with shredded cheese (or keep cheese separate if using cubes).
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5 minutes until foamy. Stir in melted butter and salt. Add flour gradually until dough forms. Knead for 5–6 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment. Divide dough into 12–14 equal pieces. Flatten each piece into a circle. Place 1–2 tbsp of beef mixture (and cheese if using cubes) in the center. Pinch edges tightly to seal and roll into a ball.
- Bring 6 cups water and baking soda to a boil. Drop each filled dough ball into boiling water for 30 seconds, then remove. Place on baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake 12–15 minutes, until deep golden brown.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add diced jalapeños to the beef mixture.
- These can be made ahead of time and frozen before boiling.
- Serve with your favorite dipping sauces like mustard or ketchup.
