Description

A delicious twist on traditional caramel apples, enhanced with s’mores toppings for a campfire-inspired treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 firm apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Gala)
  • 6 wooden sticks or skewers
  • 1 (14 oz / 400g) bag soft caramels, unwrapped or 2 cups homemade caramel
  • 3 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1 ½ cups milk chocolate chips or melting wafers
  • 1 tsp oil (makes dipping smooth)
  • Graham cracker crumbs (1–1½ cups)
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Chocolate bar squares (Hershey-style)
  • Optional: Graham cracker pieces

Instructions

  1. Wash apples and wipe with vinegar or very hot water to remove wax (important for coating to stick!). Dry well and insert sticks in the top.
  2. Place caramels + heavy cream in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth and glossy. Let cool 1–2 minutes — you want thick, not runny.
  3. Hold each apple by the stick and dip into caramel, letting excess drip. Immediately press the bottom half into graham cracker crumbs. Place on parchment paper to set for 10 minutes.
  4. Melt chocolate + oil until smooth. Spoon or drizzle chocolate on top of caramel apples (or dip halfway). Let chocolate begin to set just slightly — not fully.
  5. Press mini marshmallows onto the chocolate-covered top. Stick 1 chocolate square on top (slightly angled is cutest). Add extra crumbs & broken graham pieces for drama. If you want toasted marshmallows, pass a small handheld torch over them for 2–3 seconds.

Notes

  • Ensure apples are thoroughly dried for better caramel adherence.
  • Experiment with different types of chocolate for dipping.
  • For a fun twist, try adding other toppings like nuts or sprinkles.
