A delicious casserole inspired by the classic Big Mac, loaded with ground beef, tater tots, and a special sauce!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup chopped dill pickles
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 (32-ounce) bag frozen tater tots
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
- 1/4 cup sesame seeds
- 1 1/2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce, for serving
- extra chopped dill pickles, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Brown the ground beef with the diced onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking the meat up as it cooks.
- Stir in the minced garlic, kosher salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until fragrant.
- Drain any excess grease from the skillet and return the beef mixture to the pan.
- Add the chopped dill pickles to the beef and stir to combine, then remove from the heat.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, white vinegar, granulated sugar, onion powder, garlic powder, and smoked paprika to make the Big Mac-style sauce.
- Stir about two-thirds of the Big Mac sauce and 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese into the warm beef mixture until everything is evenly coated.
- Spread the beef mixture in an even layer in the prepared baking dish.
- Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single, even layer over the top of the beef mixture.
- Bake the casserole for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the tater tots are crisp and golden brown and the beef layer is bubbling.
- Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and the sesame seeds over the top.
- Return the dish to the oven and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 to 10 minutes, then drizzle with the remaining Big Mac sauce.
- Top with shredded iceberg lettuce and extra chopped pickles just before serving, then slice into squares and serve warm.
