Description

A delicious casserole inspired by the classic Big Mac, loaded with ground beef, tater tots, and a special sauce!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup chopped dill pickles
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 (32-ounce) bag frozen tater tots
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce, for serving
  • extra chopped dill pickles, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Brown the ground beef with the diced onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking the meat up as it cooks.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic, kosher salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Drain any excess grease from the skillet and return the beef mixture to the pan.
  5. Add the chopped dill pickles to the beef and stir to combine, then remove from the heat.
  6. In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, white vinegar, granulated sugar, onion powder, garlic powder, and smoked paprika to make the Big Mac-style sauce.
  7. Stir about two-thirds of the Big Mac sauce and 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese into the warm beef mixture until everything is evenly coated.
  8. Spread the beef mixture in an even layer in the prepared baking dish.
  9. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single, even layer over the top of the beef mixture.
  10. Bake the casserole for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the tater tots are crisp and golden brown and the beef layer is bubbling.
  11. Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and the sesame seeds over the top.
  12. Return the dish to the oven and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  13. Let the casserole rest for 5 to 10 minutes, then drizzle with the remaining Big Mac sauce.
  14. Top with shredded iceberg lettuce and extra chopped pickles just before serving, then slice into squares and serve warm.
