Description
A delicious and unique way to cook a whole chicken on the grill, giving it a smoky flavor and juicy texture.

- 1 whole chicken (4–5 lbs)
- 1 can (12 oz) of beer (Lager or Pilsner)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat grill to medium heat (approx 375°F) for indirect grilling.
- Remove giblets and pat the chicken completely dry.
- Mix dry spices and brown sugar in a bowl to create the rub.
- Coat chicken in olive oil, then apply the rub generously inside and out.
- Open beer can and discard 1/3 of the liquid. Place can on a solid surface.
- Lower chicken onto the can so it sits upright.
- Place on the grill (indirect heat) for 1 hour 15 mins or until internal thigh temp is 180°F.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before carving.
Notes
- Make sure the chicken is completely dry for the rub to adhere properly.
- You can experiment with different beers for varying flavors.
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken is cooked properly and reaches the safe internal temperature.
